Class: Answer the following - In your own words define, Precept (Wonder pg. 46). Come up with your own personal precept and explain it.
i.e. Mr. Hearn's May Precept:
"Travel is the only thing you buy, that makes you richer."
This means that money spent on travel buys memories and life experience that you cannot acquire through store bought objects and technology. When you travel with family and friends you learn alot about yourself, and each other. You can fully immerse into cultures and ways of life that you would never experience through books and television. Why spend money on things that only provide short term entertainment, when you can experience and keep a lifetime of love, laughter and memories.
Our class is currently reading R.J. Palacio's "Wonder". Students will blog about themes, motifs, and reactions to the novel.
A precipt is a rules that are important to you.

This means that whatever people say it doesn't hurt me.They can try to hurt me but mentally their hurting themselves. After they try to offend me they can't,and they give up. So they feel kind of dumb and that they jsut wasted their time on nothing. Also that I will never do any harm to myself just because people say so. Just remeber don't listen to those people that say stuff, because they are just actually jealous of you and have nothing better to do.

As long as you learn from them, and choose a better choice the next time, that will make you a better person. One day you might realize that your mistake has contributed for the good of society.

ReplyDeleteMy May precept is "Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same." I think it means that the harest things in life aren't always the wrong things. A lot of people think that the rihgt things to do are easy. But life isn't always easy and not all hard things are wrong.

If one is going to make a choice or ask a question, you must be prepared for either answer. Always remember that there are two (or more) sides to every story, even though not all of them may appeal to you.
A precept is an expression or phrase that impacts a person so much that they feel the desire to live by it.
ReplyDeleteMy precept is "Don’t let anyone walk through your mind with their dirty feet." This precept could be interpreted in multiple ways. I believe that one way means that you shouldn't let anyone force or change your opinions. If you feel strongly about something, you shouldn't let anyone morph those feelings. Another way it could be interpreted is that you shouldn't let someone who hurt you impact your life and your way of thinking. Like dirty footprints on a clean carpet, it will stain and grow into your mind and change you for the worse.

ReplyDeleteA precept I try to follow is, "Every minute you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back." I believe that if something makes you happy, you should do it and stick with it. I also believe that if something or someone doesn't make you happy and is always bringing you down, let that thing or person go. Keep company that makes you happy and you feel comfortable with. Everyone gets upset at one point in their life, but each person decides how long they let that affect them. Always try to be happy, and don't let stupid little things get to you. Have fun and enjoy life. Don't waste your time upset when you could be happy, having fun. At least, that's my interpretaion.
